IL Senator’s husband uses carry gun to defend self/Senator, Senator was not a fan of CCW

OMG this is gold lol. First:

Illinois state Sen. Kimberly Lightford was with her husband Eric McKennie Tuesday night when three individuals wearing masks stole Lightford's Mercedes-Benz SUV, police in the Village of Broadview said Wednesday. Broadview is a Chicago suburb.
At the time, police only disclosed that shots were fired during the carjacking, and that nobody – the senator, her husband or the alleged carjackers – was hurt. But the Chicago Tribune reported Thursday that Broadview Chief of Police Thomas Mills said McKennie and a suspected carjacker traded fire.
According to the Tribune, McKinnie is a legal gun owner with a concealed carry license.
"It was a lot of shots being fired. I think they were shooting at my husband and me and luckily enough my husband is concealed and carry and he was able to protect us," Lightford said about the incident in an interview with ABC 7.

Interesting, as she wasn’t a fan of it back in 2013 when the law was about to be enacted:

SPRINGFIELD — Illinois lawmakers approved a potentially landmark plan Friday to bring Illinois in line with the rest of the nation when it comes to allowing citizens to carry concealed weapons. A handful of Chicago lawmakers argued that proposal would not make their often-violent city safer.
"I just don't feel that this bill has gone far enough to protect us," said Sen. Kimberly Lightford, D-Maywood.

She was 1 of 12 Senators to vote against enacting concealed carry.

Wow. So she wanted more restrictions to the current law that she voted AGAINST, yet her husband was carrying due to that law and exchanged fire with carjackers. Seems to me that more restrictions aren’t the answer here and legal gun owners should have fewer. Maybe it’s time the Senator comes to reality and tosses these goofballs (GPAC/Giffords) to the curb, as they endorse her, but they want MORE restrictions on legal concealed carry. It’s a violent world out there, Senator, and it’s best to not be handicapped against the bad guys....

Don’t forget that the FOID/CCL system is a major cash grab for the state in which they don’t use the funds to process FOID/CCL licenses and they (IL politicians like the Senator) also sweep funds meant for it elsewhere. We broke that story in late 2019 (which led to a federal lawsuit). https://www.mom-at-arms.com/post/illinois-foid-concealed-carry-license-fees-where-s-all-the-money-going

Also don’t forget that licensing of gun owners in Illinois (which was prior to concealed carry and still exists today) exists because back in the 1960’s, Illinois politicians wanted to target blacks that owned guns and make them register themselves. All of the historical documents here:
