Step 1: once complete power had been achieved, start collecting civilian weapons “for safety“ because “the government will protect you”. 8/16/21:
KABUL, Aug 16 (Reuters) - Taliban fighters in the Afghan capital, Kabul, started collecting weapons from civilians on Monday because people no longer need them for personal protection, a Taliban official said.
"We understand people kept weapons for personal safety. They can now feel safe. We are not here to harm innocent civilians," the official told Reuters.
Step 2: begin crushing the opposition with government guns. 8/19/21:
Protests against the Taliban’s takeover in Afghanistan have spread to more cities, including the capital Kabul, while the armed group called on the country’s imams to urge unity at Friday prayers, the first since they seized control.
At least two people were killed on Thursday when the Taliban fired on a crowd in Asadabad in the eastern province of Kunar, witnesses told Al Jazeera.
Step 3: start to round up the political opposition. 8/20/21:
Meanwhile, a German NGO said it had closed its safehouses for Afghan nationals who worked with coalition forces, calling them “death traps.”
“The Taliban are going door-to-door looking for local forces,” said Marcus Grotian, an active German soldier who runs the network. “This was foreseeable, and there has already been a visit to one of the safehouses by the Taliban. Thank God it was empty.”
This hunt came despite Taliban promises just days ago that they would seek “no revenge” and that “nobody will go to their doors to ask why they helped”.
The debate regarding gun control is dead in the US. We will not give up our guns to a government who says we don’t need them. We can thank the Biden administration’s blunder and also the Taliban for making the case for us.
